In this case, when replacing a kitchen range hood fan assembly, the old cable was too short to reach the junction box in the new fan. So I shut off the electric and disconnected the fan. I bought a new exhaust fan but the old connection wires are on the opposite side and are not long enough. Is there anything I can do to make the wires long enough to reach? Whenever a cable is not long enough to reach the new location with enough length to make a proper termination and splice, you only have 2 choices. Replace the entire cable from its origin to the new destination, or you can splice the cable and add the required length by using an approved junction box and cover plate. The junction box location must be accessible after the project is complete. Without knowing the exact details of this particular situation, I would suggest that you could mount a junction box either in the wall above the range and hood location, or a more likely location would in the cupboard above the range. First, I would shut off the power to this circuit as you have already done I hope!

Just installed a new range hood for my mother. Hooked the wiring up according to plan. Blk to blk, whte to white and ground. Turned power on, nothing happened. The house is 25 years old.
I decided that I want to update my cooktop and range hood. Now there’s really wrong with these, it’s just that there are some new features in the updated models that I’d really like to take advantage of. A more efficient burner in the cooktop, a quieter range hood with built in halogen lighting. Now, I know when you think about taking out built in appliances like this, it might seem a little intimidating.
But as long as you’re replacing them with similar models, well, it’s a lot easier than you may think. This job begins with a certain amount of, well, undoing — like removing the grills and burner covers from the existing cooktop. Next, I take off the cabinet doors and pull out the drawers to give myself plenty of work room and light. Turning my gas shutoff, so that it’s perpendicular to the line, puts it in the off position. I unplug the electrical supply that powers the electronic igniters, then loosen and remove the flexible gas supply line.
My cooktop, like many, is held firmly down on the countertop with metal brackets that easily unscrew. That’s about all the undoing that’s necessary. A little tug, and the range lifts right out. The only things that are standing in the way of dispatching the range hood are a few farm animals. I turn off the electrical power at the circuit breaker, then remove the filters, and take off the cover that conceals the fan, motor and controls.

Range Hood Installation by Dave The Handyman on October 21, Here I will be explaining and showing you how to install a ductless range hood, as there are two types of range hoods. The reason I am going over the ductless type is because it is the only kind that I have messed with — and they are much easier to work with. If you have a range hood that uses a duct, you can use these instructions also for the range hood installation, all you will have to do is hook up the duck work.
The tools that you will need are a 6 in 1 screwdriver, a drill with screws screws will usually be included with the new range hood , wire nuts also included with new range hoods , and a little bit of common sense. Now before we move on with the range hood installation I am assuming that you have removed the old range hood. If you have cabinets that are on each side of the range hood make sure that you take a proper measurement before purchasing a new rangehood, once you have what you need then we shall begin.
On most models there is a hole in the back, or the top, that you will need to puncture to run the wires through, depending on how your electrical is set up at your home. After you do that just simply run the wires through the hole that you just made — now if you can, you can hook up the electric part with the wire nuts. You should have wires, a white one, a black one, and a ground. Hook the black to black with the wire nuts, the white to the white and the ground to some type of metal, like a screw some range hoods come with a green ground screw.
Next step is to mount the range hood, where you will mount it will depend on how your kitchen is set up. Mounting a range hood is easier to do if you have some help — one person holds it while the other drills the screws in As you can see in this picture, I have mounted the range hood to the top of the cabinets above with the screws provided — if you do this just make sure that the screws are so long that they will poke out through the cabinets.

Blog How to Vent a Range Hood through the Roof or a Side Wall The next time you decide to show off your Hibachi Chef talents and cook that delicious meal for a small gathering of friends in your kitchen, make sure your kitchen is properly equipped to handle all the smells, steam, and oil splashes from your grand hibachi art-work! Range hoods are typically vented using a special duct work that runs through a roof, and less often, through an exterior wall of your house.
The duct work is usually concealed within the walls, and it is really important to make everything air and water tight. If you are adding a new range hood over your stove, and plan to vent it out through the roof, you will need to get an adequately sized duct that will run all the way up through the ceiling into the attic and all the way up through the rooftop where it will be connected to your roof-top vent. Installing a new roof vent will require either hiring a roofing contractor or doing it yourself provided you are handy and can exercise proper safety precautions while on the roof.
First, specify a location for the roof vent between two rafters, and at least 3 feet away from a nearest roof protrusion, such as bathroom vets, skylights, chimneys, and most definitely, away from your roof valleys.

Range hoods are typically purchased in tandem with a stove, but they can also be bought separately. While it is normal for large appliances to be installed by professionals, it is possible to hook up your range hood without assistance with the right tools. Use these steps for installing a range hood. Detach all the wires near the light fixture of the old hood by unscrewing all the wire nuts and separating the connections. Next, loosen the screws that hold the hood into place while a partner holds the old range hood in place.
Lift the hood slowly off the screws, put the hood down, and remove the loosened screws. Make sure the range hood is large enough to cover your stovetop and that your space above the stovetop leaves at least 24 inches If you can, purchase a range hood that extends at least one inch 2.

Cassette Cluster Hub Brake A brake that is incorporated into the hub of a wheel, as opposed to a rim brake. Hub brakes activated by back-pedaling are called coaster brakes “back-pedal brakes” in British usage. Hub brakes have the advantage of being weatherproof, so they work as well in the rain as when they are dry. Effectiveness of hub brakes varies greatly from one type to another; see the entries about each type.
A disc or drum brake is commonly fitted as drag brakes on tandems to avoid the risk of overheating the rims and blowing out tires. See my article on Tandem Brakes. But on the other hand, coaster brakes overheat very quickly on downhill runs. Huret Huret was a major French manufacturer of derailers. Which hood works best? Posted on Sunday, February 17, 1: Here’s some general guidelines regarding residential kitchens completely different rules apply to commercial kitchens and I do not address them here there – now my lawyers are happy. What does a metal range hood do for me? This grease, if not collected with a ventilator, floats up and out through the house. It lands on your cabinets that’s what that crud is on the doors , lays on the countertop, and worst of all, falls to the floor where it is tracked throughout your home carpets included.
Good argument for a good hood. Do building codes require that I have a range hood? A range hood is not generally required above a stove or cooktop by most residential codes that I am aware of. However, you should check your local codes. Also, many of the professional style residential gas stoves and others do require ventilation due to the intense amount of heat. Check with the manufacturer for more details.

Saturday, November 10th, , Created: Friday, November 2nd, How do I properly vent a range hood? Vern has a range hood on an inside wall and is wondering if he could just use the hollow wall cavity or should he line it, and could he just vent into the attic because the attic itself is vented. There are actually a lot of interesting questions there Vern. First remember that there is a lot of grease and moisture in that exhaust, just think of how dirty that filter gets.
So if you vent directly into a wall cavity you will fill the wood with both moisture for swelling and rot and grease for a great fire hazard.
